The 2004 Songwriters’ Summit for Oneness "Uplifting Humanity through Music"
Since 2002, Oneness (a national non-profit organization whose mission is to eliminate racism and promote racial unity through music, the arts and education) has hosted the "Songwriters' Summit For Oneness", an invitation-only retreat that offers top producers, songwriters and artists representing Rock, R&B, Jazz, Alternative, Hip Hop, World Music, and Latin genres the chance to collaborate during a day-long retreat. Distinctive to the One ness event is our focus on creating music of positive change, social justice and racial unity. Music has long been a unifying force between people, cultures and society. Now more than ever, we need music that champions racial equality and social justice - concepts that are especially precious in light of the current times in which we live. Perhaps Neil Portnow, President of the Recording Academy put it best when he said, ".during this time of uncertainty we in the creative community will continue to make music which soothes, heals and inspires..." We believe that the answer right now is to recognize our common humanity. That is why this year's theme is "Uplifting Humanity through Music."
The overwhelming success of the Songwriters' Summit for Oneness has meant that we now are adding a Day Two for aspiring singer/songwriter/producers. The Songwriters' Summit has become a signature event for our company and is quickly becoming a "must attend" event within the industry.
Our goal: To inspire artists in an environment of collaboration and diversity, to draw upon personal experiences with racism and overcoming prejudice in an effort to create songs which promote unity in our current atmosphere of violence and mistrust.
We are excited about giving the songwriters and producers of our industry a unique opportunity to create music which will make a difference with their words and music during this time. Over the last two year's we have produced an unprecedented gathering of diverse artists and writers who gathered to create material with themes relating to social justice and race related issues. This year's event will be as historic in its own right, as we invite a diversity of songwriter's reminiscent of the likes of Curtis Mayfield to Bob Dylan and Bob Marley. Furthermore by combining our invitation-only songwriters' summit with a unique mentorship opportunity for aspiring/novice songwriters, the 2004 Songwriters' Summit for Oneness is poised to make an impact now and on generations to come.
Please join us in making the 2004 Songwriters' Summit for Oneness one that will help move humanity forward.
